Here we go again, another delay

This is starting to become a recurrent, weekly post: We have another delay in the procedure. Grair became ill over the weekend and we have determined a new bug (streep) has entered his system. Cardiology will not perform the procedure under these conditions, so we reschedule again. One of these days we’ll make it up there. While we started this process with some time-cushions, these are quickly evaporating. At some point (sooner than...

Another delay in procedure

We got a little further today. We made it to the hospital at 5:30 in the morning and met with Dr. Delaney (he runs the Cardio Cath Lab). Unfortunately, Grair developed an upper respiratory cold over the last week. In terms of Grair illnesses, this one has been mild and isn’t out the ordinary in the winter. Dr. Delaney, however, felt that the combination of going under and the upper respiratory illness carried too much risk of...

A delay in the procedure

Grair’s been home for a while and doing well. The antibiotic cleared everything up and now we wait for the heart stint procedure. The procedure was originally planned for this morning. However, due to a Dr. Delaney family emergency, he had to clear his schedule for the day. We are now scheduled for next Friday, January 20. We’ll know more then. Thanks for thinking of Grair!

Source found, great outcomes!

Today we finally discovered the source of Grair’s ongoing illness. His sinuses are badly infected. Without having a little guy that can explain what’s going on, it took a CT scan to discover the problem. He’s likely had the issue since the beginning, and the antibiotics helped but hadn’t eradicated the problem. He’ll be on antibiotics for three weeks. The best part, though, is that Grair got to come home today!...

There’s more than one path

One thing I’ve learned with Grair is that when he has a discouraging diagnosis, there’s usually another side of the coin. Today, the doctors from Infectious Disease came to take a look at Grair. Given the past 5 weeks of illness without a source, Dr. Fletcher asked them to intervene and bring their knowledge to the party. In short, they need to run more tests. These tests involve ultrasounds, nasal swabs, CT scans and blood work. The...

Knocking the dust off the old journal, unfortunately

Thankfully, it’s been many months since I last updated this site. This site, which originally housed all the communication about Grair during his initial months of birth, chronicled his first and second open heart surgeries. Well, it appears we may be looking at our third in the near future. Before I get to the details, let’s catch up to where we’re at: In early November, Grair came down with some sort...
