We got a little further today. We made it to the hospital at 5:30 in the morning and met with Dr. Delaney (he runs the Cardio Cath Lab). Unfortunately, Grair developed an upper respiratory cold over the last week. In terms of Grair illnesses, this one has been mild and isn’t out the ordinary in the winter.
Dr. Delaney, however, felt that the combination of going under and the upper respiratory illness carried too much risk of developing a more critical sickness. So we postponed the procedure until Feb 3. Let’s hope Grair is feeling better (or doesn’t have something new) by then!
We did get to learn a bit more about the procedure. First the doctors are going to attempt to expand the valve diameter by blowing a ballon up inside the valve. If they can get it to expand and stay, then that’s the best situation. However, if that doesn’t work then they will add a stint. The entire procedure is about 3 hours.
As we get closer to February 2, we’ll update more.
Thanks!
