Believe it or not, things have been calm since out last post. Grair has done exceptionally well given his new routine of daily IV antibiotics. He’s enjoyed being able to run outside and enjoy the weather (even the hot weather).
Last week, Melissa and Grair had an appointment with Dr. Fletcher, Grair’s cardiologist. Nothing major to report, other than it is definitely time for the repair. Dr. Fletcher described Grair’s heart as sounding like a “dysfunctional dishwasher!”
Tomorrow we go in for the repair. The procedure is expected to take 4-6 hours. Recovery time in unknown, but we’re expecting to be in the hospital for at least one week.
Dr. Hammel visited with Grair this afternoon and went over the game plan. He’s encouraged that we were able to get the full course of antibiotics onboard, as this significantly lowers to risk of infection once the stent and old valve are removed. Having done this procedure twice before, we feel like we know what to expect.
We’ll continue to use this site as our primary communication tool throughout the surgery and through Grair’s recovery. I’ve added a subscribe by email function, shortly after I post an update it will be sent via email.
Thank you for your continued support and prayers, they mean so much to Grair and the entire Meranda family.
We are praying for Grair and your family tonight! We pray for the wisdom and skillful hands of his physicians and nurses, and for comfort for you and your family. You have such an amazingly strong little boy!
