Even though the time on the clock says it’s been less than a day since our last update, it feels like much longer. So much has happened in between these times, and I will do my best to keep you updated.
First, I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. We have heard so many encouraging stories from all parts of the country and internationally. It has been a blessing to have such wonderful friends and family.
When we left Bryan early Monday morning, Dr. Martin, the Lincoln-based pediatric cardiologist, gave us the first picture into Grair’s issue. I have to admit, at the time (a still to a degree) I didn’t understand the whole picture. Melissa and I left the hospital with a grim outlook, but nonetheless with hope. Since coming up to Children’s we have received excellent communication and care that has us feeling more positive. We also got some sleep, our first sleep in over 60 hours!
It turns out the pediatric cardiologist in Lincoln, Dr. Martin, and the pediatric cardiologists at Children’s (at least six that we have met or heard about) meet every Monday morning to discuss each child and their current conditions. As Grair was being transported to Children’s, the Children’s pediatric cardiologists were getting the early diaganosis from Dr. Martin and were well prepared for his arrival.
Upon arrival to Children’s, Grair immediatly went through a couple of EKGs. This allowed the cardiologists to start to form a better picture of all the conditions affecting Grair’s heart. Strategies were created and flushed out in order to create a plan. This plan (of which I will describe in the next post) offers us hope. This condition, the doctors believe, is fixable.
Grair continues to go through tests and trials to determine the best approach to fixing his heart. Melissa and I remain confident in the doctors and their abilities, and know we are in the best hospital for Grair.
